This print is beautiful. It's a commonly depicted subject, but it is very special. The composition, tonal quality, and movement are exceptional and evocative. The piece is true to it's title... breathtaking!

I have wanted this for my pro life bulletin board at my Catholic Church and I wasn’t disappointed. It is beautiful and it has so much meaning put in a picture. A picture speaks better then words and this picture says it all. Thanks
Artist's Description
This is NOAA’s chart number 12224 and it is based on the original, traditional paper nautical chart. It covers a portion of the Virginia coast, focusing primarily on the Chesapeake Bay. Coverage extends from Cape Charles to Wolf Trap. The chart’s scale is 1:40,000 at Lat. 37°12’N. This chart covers fewer areas with greater details than navigation charts with a scale of 1:80,000. Color shading on the chart indicates various water depths and land elevations. Depth soundings are in feet. Also included on the chart are aids and hazards to navigation. Typically, mariners use nautical charts covering this map scale for coastal and nearshore navigation. This paper chart and others like it are being phased out by NOAA. The phase-out completion date for all paper charts is January 2025. Electronic charts for onboard navigation are replacing paper charts. Certain products in our collection utilize cropped or edited elements on the chart. We remove sections to improve the overall aesthetic...
About John Gernatt
Coastal South Georgia-based graphic artist creates, promotes, and sells products with a heavy emphasis on nautical themes. My appreciation for all things nautical began early in my life. Experiencing Coastal Georgia in the mid-1960s exposed me to the beauty and natural habitat of the coast before its development and population growth. There is a mystical quality associated with maritime adventure. In my mind, I still...
